Frequently asked questions:
Spare parts
Can I use spare of the R-220 on the new R-220 SE?
Yes all glass parts and sealing’s remains unchanged. Nevertheless it is recommended to check the order codes with the instruction manual.
Protection shield
Can I upgrade the R-220 with the protection shields of the R-220 SE?
The protection shield for the glass assembly can be used also on the R-220. The bath shield is different. The protection frame and the protection grid will not fit to the R-220.
Heating Coils
My bath went dry and the upper heating coil became an annealing colour. Can I continue to work?
Yes, you can. The over-temperature sensor was still covered from the remaining water unlike the upper heating resulting in a hot surface. The coils can be heated up to 700°C, so the functionality of the heater is not affected.
Snap Flange Coupling adjustment
Even by turning the hook to the limit stop, I do not succeed in adjusting the strength of the clamp closure. What can I do?
If the dimension of the glass flange is not in a certain tolerance, the snap flange coupling cannot be closed successfully. This can happen when different and older flasks are used. Please contact BUCHI to replace the flask.
Heating Media
Which heating medium can be used in the heating bath?
Normal water is the most common one. Using distilled water, some borax (2g) should be added. Most mineral oils or polyethylene glycol are possible.
Overpressure
Can I use the R-220 with small overpressure?
The vacuum seal is designed for conditions under vacuum. The lower the vacuum is, the better is the sealing. Therefore, the Rotavapor® should not be used under ambient pressure and must not be used with overpressure.
Plastic+Glass
Can I offer the glass assembly without PLASTIC+GLASS coated?
As standard version, all glassware except the evaporating flask is PLG coated. Though it can be made as a special customized version.
Filling volume
What is the maximum filling volume of the evaporating flask?
The maximum filling volume is defined by the angle of the installed flask. It is as follow:
- 10 liter in the 20L flask
- 4,5 liter in the 10L flask
- 2,5 liter in the 6L flask
