Dear ###USER_tx_buchiform_firstname### ###USER_name###,
I hope you had a good start into 2008. In this edition of our new@buchi we would like to draw your attention again to our latest news. We are especially proud on our newest Kjeldahl product, the KjelFlex K-360. An instrument offering many features in approved BUCHI quality. A part from that we will inform you about the newly launched Extraction Units E-812 and E-816. And, last but not least, there are news from the evaporation area as well. The Multivapor was enhanced and supplemented by an instrument for volumes up to 150 ml.
As you can see, BUCHI took time by the forelock to come up with outstanding new products and solutions at the beginning of the year.
You are invited to spend a few minutes on our website to learn more about our new and well tried products. I am sure, it will be worth your while.
Best regards,
Peter Oberstrass

Combined SPE and evaporation work-up with Syncore
Conventional solid phase extraction (SPE), an essential step in many analytical procedures, includes a number of laborious steps. With the help of the modified parallel evaporator Syncore® all essential work-up steps including evaporation of the eluates are achieved without any sample handling between the individual steps.

New for Kjeldahl: KjelFlex K-360
BUCHI Labortechnik AG launches the next stage of Kjeldahl Distillation Units. Thanks to its unique modular design, the KjelFlex K-360 can be matched to individual or changing needs at any time. By means of four add-on modules the customer can adjust the K-360 according to each individual application – before or after purchase. The basic configuration provides automatic dosage of boric acid, NaOH and water as standard. If needed, the unit can be equipped with an additional acid-resistant pump for the dosage of stronger acids. The application range is than extended by a number of non-Kjeldahl applications, such as phenol distillation and the determination of formaldehyde content, sulphur dioxide and cyanides.
By connecting an external titrator (for example from Metrohm, Mettler, Schott, Radiometer), the K-360 capabilities are extended to provide an automatic system for nitrogen and protein determination. With such a configuration manual work is reduced to an absolute minimum. The titration starts automatically when the distillation is finished. After titration the contents of the sample tube and receiving vessel are drawn off automatically.
Besides the unique modularity the new K-360 offers a variety of additional features: storage capacity of up to 50 customer-specific methods or 500 results, password security, data printout using a USB interface, multilingual software, and numerous safety functions.

Extraction Solution: Fat determination made easy
Due to media reports on the multitude of health aspects of fat in our diet – positive as well as negative ones – there has been an increased interest in the fat content of foods. In addition, for many foods and feed products, the fat content must be clearly displayed. As a result, fat is a basic parameter in analytics and is quantitatively determined for almost every sample.
The Soxhlet extraction, which was invented by Franz von Soxhlet in 1879, is routinely used as the standard method. This old method is known to “take forever”; extraction times of 4-6 hours are not rare. Furthermore, many manual tasks must be performed by the operator. This entirely contradicts the needs of today's laboratories, where time savings and automation are extremely important factors.
With its new extraction units E-812 SOX and E-816 SOX, BUCHI was able to automate and accelerate the traditional Soxhlet extraction to such an extent that the extraction process can be carried out without human intervention in half of the time. As a result, both requirements are satisfied: the official Soxhlet method is performed quickly and with reasonable effort.
The new extraction units are available as a classic Soxhlet model and, additionally, in a HE (hot extraction) version, which performs extractions following the Randall principle.
Both models - SOX and HE - are available as 2-place and 6-place units.
