Improved method for trace analysis of PAHs


The Extraction System B-811 and the Syncore Analyst parallel concentrator from BUCHI as well as the Pressurized Solvent Extractor from Applied Separations were evaluated for the pretreatment of samples containing PAHs. Recoveries of extraction and subsequent concentration using acetone+n-hexane (1+1) were 70-95% for 2 ring and 90-100% for the less volatile 3-5 ring PAHs. A good precision (95% confidence level) of less than 6%, naphtalene excluded (12%), was found. No significant difference was observed between the two extraction methods. (Mai 2008) Find out more...

SPE & Evaporation


Conventional solid phase extraction (SPE), an essential step in many analytical procedures, includes a number of laborious steps. With the help of the modified parallel evaporator, Syncore, all essential work-up steps including evaporation of the eluates are achieved without any sample handling between the individual steps.

The key feature is a three-way stopcock which allows separating the liquid passed through a SPE cartridge into either a waste vessel or a collecting vessel. The eluate of the collecting vessel is then evaporated to dryness or a pred-defined residual volume without any sample handling between the SPE work-up stage and evaporation stage. Find out more...

New Syncore application note


Metalworking fluid aerosols, largely used in the Swiss watch making industry, are known to cause various respiratory ailments such as e.g. bronchitis and asthma. There are various techniques available to determine the concentration of airborne oil mists. The Syncore® Polyvap was scrutinized with respect to reliability and reproducibility in an interlaboraty comparison with five independent analytical Swiss laboratories using four different methodologies yielding excellent results and time savings compared to conventional evaporation methods. Automatic parallel evaporation


With the launch of the Multivapor P-12, BUCHI also enhanced the functionality of its vacuum controller V-855 and V-801. Using the improved EasyVac mode, even complex solvent mixtures can now be evaporated without any manual vacuum adjustments. A genious algorithm regulates the vacuum automatically based on slight pressure changes in the condenser. This makes parallel evaporation to a simple "press-and-go" task. Find out more... (July 2007)
